DAA Statement Re Possible Strike Action on April 2

The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has today accepted an invitation from the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) to enter talks next week relating to the payment of increments.

The local branch of trade Union SIPTU served strike notice earlier this week relating to the payment of increments and pay increases under the national wage agreement. The strike notice says that SIPTU workers at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports will strike between 4am and noon next Thursday, April 2

SIPTU has informed the DAA today that all industrial action relating to the national wage agreement has been deferred. However it remains unclear whether the union’s members still intend to strike next Thursday in relation to the increments issue and whether such action will be officially sanctioned by SIPTU.

On behalf of its customers and passengers, the DAA calls on SIPTU to immediately withdraw the strike notice and accept the LRC’s offer of talks. Any further delay in doing so will merely cause undue concern and inconvenience to the travelling public.

At no point has the DAA stated that increments will not be paid. The company has paused the payment of any salary increases pending the outcome of a cost recovery programme. The increment payments in question are normally paid in the middle of April.
